Help us grow our mission

At the Outdoor Heritage Advisory Council, we leverage our partnerships to grow our mission to reach all the kids of North Carolina. We find companies or organizations who are already doing work that compliments or adopts our mission of getting kids outdoors and off electronic devices. Check out our partners below to see the awesome work they are doing.

Muddy Sneakers

Muddy Sneakers is an award-winning outdoor science education program that partners with public elementary schools to teach curriculum-aligned topics to 5th-grade students on nearby protected lands. This past school year, the nonprofit served more than 3,500 students in 47 schools across North Carolina. Since many students are now learning remotely, Muddy Sneakers has adapted its traditional model to provide remote and virtual science expeditions to continue to inspire the joy of learning outside, even if it’s only from your own backyard. Muddy Sneakers believes every child deserves the opportunity to connect with nature and that outdoor learning inspires a love of inquiry, positions students for improved academic performance, and inspires a lifetime of stewarding our state’s natural heritage.

The NC Outdoor Heritage Advisory Council recently entered a partnership with Muddy Sneakers to help create remote expeditions that students can embark on in the midst of the pandemic. Both Muddy Sneakers and NC outdoor Heritage Advisory Council are passionate about getting kids outdoors and we are excited to reach youth all across the state with our like-minded missions.

North Carolina State Parks

The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation exists to inspire all its citizens and visitors through conservation, recreation and education. North Carolina’s state parks are Naturally Wonderful and also wonderfully diverse. The system stretches from the highest sand dune on the East Coast at Jockey’s Ridge to Mount Mitchell, the highest point in the eastern U.S. Between these points, you’ll find mysterious bay lakes, wild swamps, rare sandhills, piedmont river systems and bold mountain streams.

The NC Outdoor Heritage Advisory Council is proud to work alongside the NC State Parks to offer educational opportunities to kids, teachers and families during the pandemic. Our shared goals have made this partnership possible as we work to get more kids and families outside and enjoying our beautiful state.

Hand in Hand Water Safety Awareness Foundation

Hand in Hand’s  mission is to equip all people with water safety education and resources to prevent drowning-related accidents. Which includes layers of protection. Their  vision is a world without drowning. We believe that everyone- regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, geographical location, level of education, or socioeconomic status- should have access to water safety education. We envision a future where this knowledge is passed down to younger generations, instilling confidence and safety in and around water.
The North Carolina Outdoor Heritage Advisory Council recently began partnering with Hand in Hand. Through a grant we were able to provide to Hand in Hand, 100 kids were able to receive scholarships for free swim lessons.
